Time passed, everything was pretty much the
same. Jonas was still the receiver of memories and he is still was receiving
the memories given. But, Jonas changed, not like the apple or Fiona’s hair
changed; he was just not same Jonas as before. He wanted things he couldn’t
have. Color. Freedom. Animals. Family. Love. The only way to have these things
was through the memories given. This was his get away, his personal world.
Jonas liked his “world” so much because all of it pleasurable. Even though the memories were amazing, there
was still a missing piece to the puzzle. PAIN. Soon, in his landscape, there were physical
painful flashbacks like: a broken leg, or a three-degree burn. On the other
hand, there were memories that hurt seeing like: world hunger and war. Jonas
was impressed of these memories, but he knew it was the right thing to receive
them. Also, he was doing the Giver a favor, minor the physical and psycological pain he was experincing.
Jonas liked Fiona; there was no doubt about
it. He wanted to experience love and the stirrings again. They felt good for
him, for anyone, really. He wanted love, but not through the
memories, not in the Annex room. In real life, by looking at Fiona perhaps. This
is why, “The next morning, for the first time, Jonas did not take the pill.
Something within him, something that had grown there through the memories, told
him to throw the pill away.” Pg. 129 Jonas broke a rule, a rule very demanding
and strict. He did not care, not even a bit. People in his community control
every individual’s lives and their likes as well. He wanted freedom, love. I
believe Jonas is doing took the right decision. Everyone deserves love, love
makes you feel good. Why take this away from people? Why not letting humans
fall in love? This makes no sense. There is not really a deffinition of love. But, when I think of love, I think of Jack and Rose, of William and Kate, of Hazel and Agustus, of Bella and Edward, of Tris and Tobias. I think about Jonas and Fiona.
Jonas’ life is very stressful right now,
but he has accesses to information only a few human begins have. He can take
advantage of this information and abuse of his wisdom. But, he can also have a
huge impact on his community, change everything, and destroy this odd way of
government. Find the real meaning of life and the purpose of it.
Daniela. I think that Jonas likes Fiona too. Also I think that the reason that the community is not allowed to love is that there can be divorces, people can get heart broken and by this the community will start to feel other things, making it diffrent and there will be no Sameness. Also think that the Chief Elder, and the rest of the community, including Jonas are afraid of choices and by loving someone you make a decision. Why do you think that Jonas loves Fiona, why don`t you think that it is a teen ager crush?
ReplyDeleteJoaquin, thanks for your comment. You were talking about how taking decisioins can destroy the Sameness, which is true, but why live if you are not going to take any chances? There is no point! I believe the rule of Sameness needs to be changed. On the other hand, I think that Jonas really loves Fiona. He had dreams about her and also stirrings, and yes this is part of beign a teenager, but Jonas experinced this with Fiona, not anyone else. Besides, Jonas saw Fiona`s hair change, not any other girl`s hair. And as the Chief Elder explain, that has to do with the "ability to see beyond" maybe this is beyond a crush. Love, perhaps?
DeleteDani, I really liked your blog and I think that it was very interesting. On the book I connect with the same of your quote and it is very attractive.
ReplyDeleteJuli, thanks for checking out my blog. I am glad that you made some connections while reading my text response.
DeleteDaniela I agree with you with the topic of Jonas like Fiona. In the book when it mention Fiona you can infer that they are good friends and you can infer that Jonas like Fiona, you can also infer that Jonas like Fiona in chapter 5 when Jonas have a dream with Fiona, when Jonas have a stirring dreaming with Fiona.
ReplyDeleteCamilo, I agree with your point. The dreams and the stirrings show that Jonas feels something for Fionna.
DeleteDani i think that your ideas about Jonas not caring about not taking the pill are great but i think that Jonas does care about what he feels that is why he doesn't take the pill so to make himself not fell so alone and loved.
ReplyDeleteRafa, I see what you are talking about but, I think Jonas may feel guilty by not taking the pills, but I believe he is doing the right thing.
DeleteDani, i agree with the fact that Jonas is probably in love with Fiona, if he is not he soon will be. I believe this is one of the main reasons he stopped taking the pill, but I also believe that he stopped taking the pill because he is realising how everything in this society is over-controlled and he wanted some sort of freedom from the rules that didn't let him make his own decisions and dictate his own feelings.
ReplyDeleteRafa, I haven't seen this part of te book as the way you did. I agree with you because breaking the rules is a forms of freedom and liberation. Jonas may love Fionna and this is why he stopped taking the pill, but breaking the rules is also a way to feel important. I believe Jonas took the right deition.
